Generic Voltaren (Diclofenac Sodium) is nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used to relieve the inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis (the most common form of arthritis), and ankylosing spondylitis (arthritis and stiffness of the spine). Drug Class and Mechanism
Diclofenac possess analgesic,anti-inflammatory and antipyretic action.Diclofenac inhibits the enzyme cyclo-oxygenase and there by inhibits the synthesis of Prostaglandins (PGs). It is more potent against cyclo-oxygenase-2 enzyme as compared to other NSAIDs like Indomethacin, Naproxen etc. It reduces intracellular concentrations of free arachidonic acid in leukocyte by altering its release or uptake.
Absorption: Diclofenac sodium is rapidly absorbed after oral administration. It undergoes first pass metabolism and its bioavailability is 50 % only. Distribution: It is distributed in highly protein bound form. Metabolism: Diclofenac sodium is metabolised in the liver. Excretion: Drug and metabolites are primarily excreted in urine and some amount in the bile.
How Taken
Use the lowest effective dose of Generic Voltaren (Diclofenac Sodium) for the shortest duration.
For the relief of pain, Migraine: 100 - 150 mg / day in 2 - 3 divided doses.
For the relief of osteoarthritis: the recommended dosage of Generic Voltaren (Diclofenac Sodium) is 100-150 mg/day in 2 to 3 divided doses.
For the relief of rheumatoid arthritis: the recommended dosage of Generic Voltaren (Diclofenac Sodium) is 150-200 mg/day in 2 to 3 divided doses.
For the relief of ankylosing spondylitis: the recommended dosage is 100-125 mg/day in 4 divided dosages, with an extra 25-mg dose at bedtime if necessary.
For the relief of pain in Dysmenorrhoea: 150 mg / day in 3 divided doses.
To minimize stomach upset and related side effects, your doctor may recommend taking this medicine with food, milk, or an antacid (Zantac,Tritec).Take Generic Voltaren with a full glass of water. Also, do not lie down for about 20 minutes after taking it. This will help to prevent irritation in your upper digestive tract. Missed Dose
Do not use 2 doses at once. If you miss a dose of Generic Voltaren, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

Store Generic Voltaren (Diclofenac sodium) at room temperature in a tightly closed light resistant container.
Warnings/Precautions
Do not use Generic Voltaren if:
You are allergic to any ingredient in Generic Voltaren;
You have had a severe allergic reaction (e.g., severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, dizziness) to another NSAID (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib) or aspirin.
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
Important:
Remember that Generic Voltaren has been known to cause peptic ulcers and bleeding. Contact your doctor immediately if you suspect a problem. Use Generic Voltaren cautiously if you have kidney problems, heart disease, or high blood pressure. It can cause fluid retention.
This medication can also cause liver problems. If you develop signs of liver disease such as nausea, fatigue, lethargy, itching, yellowish eyes and skin, tenderness in the upper right area of your abdomen, or flu-like symptoms, notify your doctor at once
Generic Voltaren should not be used in children; safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Generic Voltaren while you are pregnant. It is not known if Generic Voltaren is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while using Generic Voltaren.

• Generic Voltaren® (diclofenac sodium enteric-coated tablets) is contraindi-cated for the treatment of perioperative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
• NSAIDs cause an increased risk of serious gastrointestinal adverse events including inflammation, bleeding, ulceration, and per-foration of the stomach or intestines, which can be fatal. These events can occur at any time during use and without warning symptoms. Elderly patients are at greater risk for serious gastrointestinal events.
