Xyzal (Levocetirizine) is a non-sedative new third generation antihistamine. Antihistamines are used to relieve or prevent the symptoms of hay fever and other types of allergy. Xyzal (Levocetirizine) works by blocking histamine receptors. Xyzal (Levocetirizine) is chemically an active enantiomer of cetirizine. Xyzal (Levocetirizine dihydrochloride),is a new once-daily prescription antihistamine that delivers a rapid and long-lasting effect for the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and uncomplicated skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children six years of age and older.
In allergic rhinitis Xyzal (Levocetirizine) significantly reduced the symptoms of sneezing, itchy nose, runny nose, chronic hives and itchy eyes. In chronic idiopathic urticaria Xyzal (Levocetirizine) significantly reduced the severity of itching and the number and size of wheals. Xyzal (Levocetirizine) cause fewer side effects such as drowsiness and dizziness than cetirizine.
