Vibramycin (Doxycycline) - Periostat (Doxycycline) is a tetracycline broad-spectrum antibiotic and used for treating bacterial infections. It may be used in combination with other medicines to treat acne or certain amoeba or fungal infections. Vibramycin (Doxycycline) - Periostat (Doxycycline) may be used to prevent certain types of malaria in travelers who will be visiting malaria-infected areas for less than 4 months. It may also be used to prevent or slow the progression of anthrax after exposure.
Vibramycin (Doxycycline) - Periostat (Doxycycline) works by slowing the growth of bacteria hence by Slowing the bacteria's growth allows the body's immune system to destroy the bacterial infections. Doxycycline is also used to treat many different bacterial infections, such Rocky Mountain spotted fever and other fevers caused by ticks, fleas, and lice; urinary tract infections; trachoma (chronic infections of the eye); and some gonococcal infections in adults.
Doxycycline is an approved treatment for inhalational anthrax. Doxycycline is also used with other medications to treat severe acne and amoebic dysentery (diarrhea caused by severe parasitic infection of the intestines). Tetracyclines such as Vibramycin (Doxycycline) - Periostat (Doxycycline) will not work for colds, flu, or other virus infections.
