Celebrex (Celecoxib) is in a group of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is a member of a new class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) called COX-2 inhibitors. Generic Celebrex is used in familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) to decrease the number of polyps (growths) in the rectal area (colonic polyps). Generic Celebrex (Celecoxib) works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Generic Celebrex (Celecoxib) is prescribed for acute pain, menstrual cramps, and the pain and inflammation of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
