Pharmacists can expect many questions from patients
Acid indigestion plagues a third of U.S. populationOften can not lead to peptic ulcer diseaseHeartburn may be a sign of gastroesophageal reflux diseaseAntacids neutralize stomach acid, relieving indigestion and heartburnEven when the economy is in better shape, acid indigestion and heartburn plagues about a third of the U.S. population. About 100 million Americans experience heartburn every month; about 15 million fighting it at least once a day.
Acid indigestion involves an excess of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. The symptoms may include the discomfort or a burning sensation on top of the stomach, dizziness, abdominal bloating, or belching. Often can not lead to irritation of the duodenum or an irritation of the lining of the stomach, both of which play can be a role in the development of peptic ulcer disease, which can be life-threatening.
Heartburn is a painful burning sensation in the throat, just below the breastbone, caused by stomach (gastric) acid flowing back to the throat. The disease often recess in chest and may radiate to the neck or throat. Heartburn may be a sign of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - damage to the esophagus that develops from chronic exposure to the throat of acid coming up from the stomach.
Antacids such as Anti-Acidity pills Nexium Generic, Prilosec Generic, Protonix Generic, Zantac (Ranitidine), Prevacid Generic, relieve indigestion and heartburn by neutralizing, or balancing, the stomach acid. Most OTC antacids containing one or more of the following active ingredients: aluminum hydroxide, calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and sodium bicarbonate. With more than $ 10 billion spent worldwide each year on antacids, pharmacists can expect to field any number of patients with questions and concerns.

Here are some cautions to remember: Many brands contains more than an active participant, so it is important for patients to read labels when they are shopping their doctors' recommendations. (Classes have shown that most people with heartburn and indigestion not seek medical attention.) patients who recently suffered extensive upper GI hemorrhage should not take antacids containing aluminum hydroxide without consulting their doctor. patients with impaired kidney function should not take antacids containing magnesium hydroxide their doctors' knowledge. Extended heavy use of antacids containing calcium (20 grams or more daily for a prolonged period) may cause excessive calcium in the blood, which can lead to kidney stones and reduced the stone function. People who already have impaired piece may develop milk-alkali syndrome (symptoms include dizziness, vomiting, mental confusion, and weight loss) when taking as little as 4 grams a day of antacids. overuse of antacids that contain aluminum can weaken bones, especially in people with impaired kidney function, leading to osteomalacia (softening of bones, which causes tenderness, muscular weakness, and weight loss).
The most common side effects of antacids Zantac (Ranitidine) is a chalky taste left in the mouth. Antacids containing magnesium can cause diarrhea. Those containing aluminum may cause constipation. Taking antacids that contain both aluminum and magnesium (eg, Maalox or Mylanta) May balance the effects. Prolonged use of antacids can result in dizziness, headache, muscle weakness, or weight loss. Antacids Zantac (Ranitidine) may affect the way a number of prescription drugs or a job are used by the body. Finally, with many drugs, antacids should be taken one to two hours before or after other medications.

NICE NEWS - NHS Speed up Drug Approval In UK !!! - Shoppillrx Health News

NHS Speed up Drug Approval In UK !!! - NICE decides what drugs the NHS should pay for. The government is to set out plans to speed up approval of drugs used in the National Health Service in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) can take up to two years to make a decision but ministers want this cut to six months. Patients will have their legal rights to drugs recommended by NICE laid out in the planned NHS constitution.
Health trusts will no longer be able to refuse drugs on cost grounds alone. The draft version of the constitution is expected to set out what patients and staff are entitled to from the NHS. This includes "fundamental principles" such as universal access to healthcare, and to drugs and treatments approved by NICE. for more information about cheap generic drugs please visit: http://www.shoppillrx.com/

RED WINE Contains Antioxidants, Protect Heart and Prevent Cancer - Shoppillrx Health News

Cheers !!! Red Wine contains Higher Levels Of Antioxidants called polyphenols which are said to lower cholesterol, protect heart and prevent cancer. Polyphenols, found in the skins of grapes, are left on as the pulp ferments when making red wine but they are taken off for white.
Now, a team at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa has found they could preserve the polyphenol content of white wine grapes just by leaving the skins to ferment with the pulp for a relatively short time about 18 hours and by the addition of a limited amount of pure alcohol.
White wine health benefits increase. You may now raise your glass to a healthier white wine, for researchers have developed a way to boost the anti-oxidant content of the alcoholic drink so that it has health benefits similar to red wine.

The health benefits of red wine can now be located in Chardonnay, the researchers. Red wine has long been thought to offer more protection against heart disease. Now, the winemakers have developed a white wine, which they say has the same benefits as red. There is no definitive proof that red wine is more beneficial than moderate amounts of other alcohol - Belinda Linden, British Heart Foundation. Wine that has been created for researchers at the University of Montpellier in France, called the Paradox Blanc because it is a paradox that the French people is part of cigarettes and fatty foods, but suffer from relatively low levels of heart disease. One theory is that this is due to the fact that they are drinking wine in their meals.

Fat
: Red wine is believed to be "healthier" choice because it contains antioxidants called polyphenols. These mop damaging free radicals, and it could prevent fat deposits building up in arteries. Alcohol Facts
Women's limit - 14 units per week,
Men's limit - 21 units per week,
1 unit of alcohol = 1 small glass of wine, half a pint of normal strength lager or beer or 1 measure spirits,
Polyphenols are concentrated in the skin of grapes. Red wine has a high polyphenol levels, therefore, how it is done. Researchers led by Pierre-Louis Teissedre chose white grapes which were rich in polyphenols. They also changed the wine-making process so it was more that of red wine, including steps such as heating the mixture up to a higher than normal. The end result was a Chardonnay, which was the polyphenol levels four times higher than normal.

Moderation: Wine is designed for people who have type 1 - or young - diabetes, whose bodies are less effective for cleaning operations in the free radicals than normal. The experiments carried out in diabetic rats showed wine antioxidant restore the blood back to normal, even though all the alcohol is removed. But tests have not yet proved it reduces fat deposits in the arteries, which reduces heart attacks and strokes. The study is published in Journal of New Scientist and the online version of the Journal of Agriculural and Food Chemistry.

Dr Teissedre said a glass or two of wine a day could benefit people with diabetes. But Eleanor Kennedy of the charity Diabetes UK, said: "The best way to get antioxidants is to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. "People with diabetes should only drink alcohol in moderation." According to the researchers, besides providing a more healthful alternative to those who prefer the taste of white wine over red, the development is also promising for those who can't drink red wine, including some migraine sufferers whose condition can be exacerbated by red.
